This is a fabulous tool to clarify the complexity of the world; you dont have to go all over the Internet to understand something; this gets it all together, said Philippe Destatte, Director of The Destree Institute (Namur, Wallonia) and a sponsor of the Brussels launch of the Global Futures Intelligence System held at Royal Academy of Belgium along with the Club of Rome European Union Chapter and Deloitte.
Anyone can now go to http://www.themp.org with their mobile phone and the system will detect that they are using a phone, not a regular computer and transfer from the usual computer-display mode to the new mobile version of the Global Futures Intelligence System.
You can now have global intelligence on the future of the world in the palm of your hand, explains Jerome Glenn, CEO of The Millennium Project. Overviews, situation charts, references and latest relevant news on the most important challenges facing humanity are now all available at a click. The system presents distillations of the present situation, prospects, and strategies to address issues ranging from climate change to governance, S&T, economics, ethics, education and more. Although simple and elegant to use, there are over 10,000 pages of research, charts, and graphs available.
A reporter or executive or student running to a meeting about say water can now check the latest data on water, on the way. News research, commentaries and more are available anytime, anywhere with mobile phone access.
The information is continuously updated by futurists and scholars from around the world. The mobile version does not have all of the full computer system’s features like suggesting edits, adding scanning items, but the content is there! The full system is computer accessible at the same address: http://www.themp.org.
The Millennium Project is a global participatory think tank connecting 50 Nodes around the world that identify important challenges in their regions, and initiate and conduct futures-related special research, workshops, symposiums, and advanced training. Its mission is to improve thinking about the future and make it available through a variety of media for feedback to accumulate wisdom about the future for better decisions today. It produces the annual “State of the Future” reports, the “Futures Research Methodology” series, the Global Futures Intelligence System (GFIS), and special studies. The forthcoming 2013-2014 “State of the Future” will be available by the end of January 2014.
